CHAPTER ONE
1. Briefly identify the children in the McConnell family.
- Susan, Melvyne, Francis, and Craig


2. What does Susan mean by “someday”?
- When Susan says "someday" she really means "Never".


3. Who is David Ruggles? How does Susan feel about him?
- He is the President of the senior class. he is also in Susan's lit class.


4. Several other students of Room 117 are introduced. Briefly identify them.
- Betsy is a cheerleader
-Mark Kenney is the cool kid
-and Jeff Garrett is the wacko who came up with the idea to kill Mr. Griffin


5. In the classroom scene, what emphasizes Susan’s feelings of being an outsider?
- She is quiet and doesn't have many friends.


6. Two teachers are introduced. Briefly identify them.
- Mr. Griffin is Strict and hard on his students
-Dolly Luna is a 30 year old teenager...in other words..she's a fun teacher


7. Mr. Griffin is very strict and stern with the students. Do you think these qualities make him a good teacher? Briefly explain your answer.
- Yes, it challenges students and gets them to think critically.


8. An allusion is when a writer refers to a person, place, poem, book, or movie that the reader, is expected to recognize. Find an example of allusion in this chapter.
-"that song she wrote".


9. In what ways does Susan think she and the dying female in Hamlet are similar?
- Susan was lonely but she says that she'll find love one day even though she knows she wont.


10. A metaphor is a comparison of two things that are basically unlike, in order to create a sharp picture. In this first chapter find the metaphor involving a bird that helps the author define how Susan is feeling about her life.


11. Jeff says, “That Griffin’s the sort of guy you’d like to kill.” Why doesn’t Susan think he is serious?
- Becasue sometimes students get mad or upset with the teacher that is failing them and are sometimes over dramatic


12. Frequently, objects which seem inconsequential when first mentioned become an
important part of the plot later. In the last six paragraphs do you notice any object that might be foreshadowed?
- She is happy becasue she talked to David and went on a date with him nut it will be the last hapy expeirience she ever has.


CHAPTER TWO

1. Becasue Mr. Griffin keeps giving Jeff F's

2. He had to take the english course over again for the second time.

3. That killer look that mark had when he wanted to do something for the pleasure of doing it. He really wanted to kill Mr. Griffin...or just scare him really bad.

4. They were all tired of flunking his class and getting yelled at for not being perfect.

5. David likes a challenge. Mark knows too much about David Ruggles.

6. First of all shes not one of them or their group secondly shes passing the class and thirdly shes a teacher's pet, no one would ever suspect her.

7. It was when susan and David met way back in middle school and the humiliation that david expirienced.

8. He was very observitive. He memorized the techers roll call, he set a cat on fire, and he had a special beauty, something too strange to explain.


CHAPTER THREE

1. David is the son. The grandmais old and acts bed-ridden but is really fine. the mom is a secratary and doest want to re- marry. their dad left them when david was young.

2. Becasue he wants to get into a good college and he wants to be able to support his family.

3. There is no light and everything is in plastic and is sterle

4. True. He goes along with the plan becasue he does not want to fail. that class is the last thing between him and a better life.


CHAPTER FOUR

1. She gets to sleep inn.

2. "And that suddenly, thats easily she felt as though she was part of the group."

3. She was mark's ex-girl friend. He blames the break up on Mr. Griffin.

4.She thought he was kind of creepy.

5. The symbol is when Devid took Susan's glasses off and said that her whole face changes once they're off.

6. "Are you kidding we have them off before we blindfold him. we don't want to shove them through his eyeballs."
